Windows

  1. Run LMTOOLS from the FLEXnet server's \Tools\ folder. If on Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista or Windows 7 RIGHT-click on the LMTools.exe and select "Run as Administrator" to open it.
  2. On the Service/License File tab, select Configuration Using Services.

  3. On the Config Services tab, type OriginLab (or name of your choice) in the Service Name text box.
  4. In the "Path to the lmgrd.exe file" field, click the Browse button and browse to the FLEXnet Server \Servers\ folder, select the lmgrd.exe file in the Open dialog and then click the Open button. (Note: If you installed the FLEXnet server to the default path, the folder is: C:\Program Files\FLEXnetServer\Servers\). After you finish, the full path and lmgrd.exe file name should appear in the text box.
  5. Follow the same procedure for the license file (example as shown in image below- C:\Program Files\FLEXnetServer\Licenses\orglab.lic).
  6. The debug log file does not yet exist - the service will create it based on what you enter in this text box. You can copy all the text from the license text box and paste it into the debug log file text box, but then change the file name extension to .log.
  7. Select Use Services.
  8. If you want the service to start automatically when the server boots, select Start Server at Power Up.

  9. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab. When asked to save the service, click Yes.
  10. On the Start/Stop/Reread tab, select the Force Server Shutdown check box.
  11. Click the Start Server button. You should a "Server Start Successful" message in the LMTOOLS status bar.

    Sun SPARC Solaris 10

    ./lmgrd -c <path>orglab.lic -l [+]<path>orglabDebug.log

where orglab.lic is the license file you obtained from the OriginLab website.

    Fedora 8

    ./lmgrd -c <path>orglab.lic -l [+]<path>orglabDebug.log

where orglab.lic is the license file you obtained from the OriginLab website.

For example, if your license file is located at /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglab.lic, then you would enter the following command to start the service, and to keep the previous contents of the debug log file and to append new debug information to the bottom of the log file:

    ./lmgrd -c /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglab.lic -l +/home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglabdebug.log

Alternatively, you would use the following command to start the service, and to clear the previous contents of the debug log file. (The debug log file gets cleared when the command is issued.):

    ./lmgrd -c /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglab.lic -l /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglabdebug.log

    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.6

    ./lmgrd -c <path>orglab.lic -l [+]<path>orglabDebug.log

where orglab.lic is the license file you obtained from the OriginLab website.

For example, if your license file is located at /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglab.lic, then you would enter the following command to start the service, and to keep the previous contents of the debug log file and to append new debug information to the bottom of the log file:

    ./lmgrd -c /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglab.lic -l +/home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglabdebug.log

Alternatively, you would use the following command to start the service, and to clear the previous contents of the debug log file. (The debug log file gets cleared when the command is issued.):

    ./lmgrd -c /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglab.lic -l /home/customer/www/originlab.comb/orglabdebug.log

    Troubleshooting

    1. Send OriginLab the status inquiry result, and log file and license file.
    2. Check that mac address (ethernet address) is still correct.
    3. If can't start, make sure lmgrd is shut down properly. Use lmtools several times, with Force shutdown checked. Then check task manager. If there is more than one FLEXnet server running, you may see many lmgrd.exe processes, so you don't want to end them. If only one FLEXnet server, then end lmgrd.exe.
    4. Check configuration and try to start again.
