[edit] Wine

Wine enables Linux, Mac, BSD, Solaris and other POSIX compatible operating systems to run Windows applications without a copy of Microsoft Windows. Wine is free software under constant development.

[edit] Origin 8

The Origin installation will run on Wine as is and will install the additional system DLLs if they are not already installed on the Wine environment.

There are still many parts of Origin that do not work on Wine and even cause Origin to stop responding.

Running Origin on Wine is considered unusable at this time.

[edit] Origin8 Viewer

The Origin8 Viewer installation will run on Wine as is and will install the additional system DLLs if they are not already installed on the Wine environment. The manual installation, the .zip file, contains the additional system DLLs.

The following DLLs are not created by OriginLab and used by Origin8 Viewer:

  • imm32.dll
  • mfc42.dll
  • msvcp60.dll

[edit] Tested Platform

Origin 8 and Origin8 Viewer have been installed and briefly tested on Wine 1.1.15 running on Fedora 10.

While OriginLab has installed and briefly tested on the above platforms it is important to understand that Wine is not Windows and your experience and usage may vary.
