New and Improved Cluster Gadget

A new gadget named "Cluster" has been added. This gadget is similar in functionality to the Cluster Tool on File Exchange.

The following functionality is supported:

  • Rectangular or Circular shaped ROI. The Circle shape can also be skewed to cover desired data specifically
  • Stats on data inside and outside ROI.
  • Stats on selected data plot, or all data plots in layer
  • Data operations of Delete Row, Mask/Unmask, Clear Data, Set to Zero/Custom Value. Operation can apply to data inside or outside ROI
  • Buttons have been added to perform cluster manipulation
  • User can decide whether to include locked data (such as output of some analysis operation)
  • Operation is undoable

Quick Peaks Gadget

This is a new gadget available from the Gadgets menu with a graph page active. This gadget is similar in functionality to the Baseline tool in Origin 7.5, but with improved baseline detection, and with more options for peak detection etc.

Key features include:

  • Multiple methods to detect and define baseline
  • Define baseline for data within ROI or for entire dataset including data outside of ROI
  • Multiple methods to find peaks
  • Support to output over 15 selectable peak parameters including peak location in x/y, area, centroid etc
  • Fit Peaks context menu to do multiple peaks fit after finding peaks

This new gadget can then be used to either just pick peaks, or also pick and integrate peaks. The key difference between this gadget and the existing Integrate gadget is that the Integrate gadget does not detect peaks, it just integrates all of the data inside the ROI.

Statistics Gadget Improvements

The following improvements have been made:

  1. User can specify where to display Mean and SD values inside the ROI box:

  2. The gadget now supports statistics on multiple datasets. User can check/uncheck the desired data plots using the fly-out menu:

Note: The "Statistics" gadget introduced in earlier version only provides statistics on single data.

Digitizer

The digitizer, a popular file-exchange application, is now incorporated into Origin as a floating tool. Open the tool from Tools: Digitizer menu item, or click the "New Digitizing Image" button on the Standard Toolbar (next to the New Notes button).

The floating dialog has many buttons on the top. Dynamic hints are provided in dialog for guiding user. Some of the key features in this tool are:

  • Rotate image if necessary to correct any alignment issues such as introduced by scanning image from a journal.
  • Specify axis type to be linear or log10.
  • Specify axis label type to be Numeric, Time, or Date in Options dialog.
  • Specify X and Y axis scale using two sets of vertical and horizontal lines.
  • Zoom and pan into graph by holding down Z key to place the lines precisely
  • Extra X, Y Reference Lines to check the accuracy of the placement of the axis scale definition lines.
  • Save Axis and Rotation settings to a file and load it for other similar images in the future.
  • Digitize multiple traces separately and have the results go to one worksheet and one result graph
  • Adjust selected points to correct for position (press and hold Z key to zoom and pan), and output values will automatically update.
  • Adjust X/Y Axis scale after picking points. Output values will update automatically.
  • Add Labels to picked points. Click the Set Label button to go to Label Editing mode (the button stays pressed down). In this mode, double click any picked point to add label to the point. Navigate to other points to add labels. After setting labels, user can click Set Label button again to go out of the Label Editing mode.
  • Access the resulting worksheet or graph directly from the dialog
  • Once dialog is closed, a "Digitizer..." button is added to the graph with the image. This button can be clicked to open the dialog back with the last used settings to continue working with that image.

The picked points and its labels can by updated by changing the entries in the DigiData output worksheet.
