Transferring an Origin License When Replacing a Computer

When replacing a computer due to upgrading or a hardware failure, you can transfer your Origin license to the new computer. The license is computer specific, so you need to have the license cleared from your OriginLab Web Account to obtain a new one.

If you are upgrading your computer, you must uninstall Origin from the old computer. Before uninstalling you will need your Origin Computer ID.

Locating Your Origin Computer ID

  1. Open Origin on the old computer by double-clicking on the Origin program icon. NOTE: If running on Windows Vista, right-click on the Origin program icon and select "Run as Administrator"

  2. Click on Help | About Origin.

    This brings up the About Origin dialogue.
  3. Click on License.

  4. This brings up the License Status dialogue. Click on License.

  5. Select Get a license file now. This computer does NOT have internet access. Then click OK.

  6. Please make note of your Origin Computer ID.

Uninstalling Origin

To uninstall Origin we recommend using the Origin Add or Remove Files tool. This is located under the Start Menu Origin folder.

  1. Close Origin if it's open.
  2. Click on Start | All Programs | OriginLab | Origin | Origin Add or Remove Files.

  3. Select Remove and click Next.

  4. Click Yes to confirm that you want to uninstall Origin.

  5. Allow the setup to complete the uninstall. Then click Finish.

Reporting a Licensed Computer No Longer In Use

Under your User Profile on the OriginLab website there is a tool to help you with this.

  1. Open a web browser to www.originlab.com.
  2. Click Login in the top right corner of the page.
  3. Enter your UserID and Password and click Login.
  4. Click on the View registered Origin Product link.

  5. Select your serial number (you may have more than one serial number registered under this account). Then click on Report a licensed computer no longer in use.

  6. Enter your Computer ID in the space provided. There is no need to enter anything else. Then click Submit Request.

    Alternatively you can send an email to reginfo@originlab.com or call 1-800-969-7720 and select the Licensing and Registration Department.

    You will receive an email from reginfo@originlab.com when the license has been cleared and it is available to be obtained for your installation on your new computer.
